I recently had the pleasure of helping launch a new book by an old friend.
‘Bombay Baby’ isn’t the first novel by Leela Soma (she had one before published on-line). But it’s the first of hers to be taken up by a leading independent UK publisher.
The launch was at the CCA in Glasgow and was very successful: the first one I’ve seen, in fact, where more copies of the book were sold than there were people in the audience.
‘Bombay Baby’ deals with cultural identity and adoption and is bang-0n in terms of topicality and the complexities of nationhood.
That’s me congratulating Leela above at the Scottish Writers’ Centre, where I recently became a director. (Note to self: wear better jumpers when presenting at these events.) But doesn’t she looked thrilled, as well she might?
You can buy Leela’s new book, which I strongly recommend at http://dahliapublishing.co.uk/2011/09/bombay-baby/ and readers can get it for just £10 if they order now.

Hi David
I’m so glad you enjoyed Bombay Baby. I was very thrilled to be publishing Leela’s novel and thank you for doing a great job with the launch – jumper issue aside!
Can I put in a small request? We seem to be having some teething problems with Amazon atm – and are NOT getting orders through their system. The book is available however, and can be purchased directly via our website. We had a Xmas offer which is still available til the end of the month so readers can get a copy of the title for just £10 with free (UK) p&p. Here’s the link http://dahliapublishing.co.uk/2011/09/bombay-baby/
